So shasti is a rigorous fast of silence and generally a mounam (silence) fast that is undertaken every year. Not the most popular one because it generally falls the day after Deepavali. this fast is tough won’t lie but it’s a fast that’s been observed by my ancestors and doing it makes me feel deeply connected to them.
together with Ganesh in the root chakra and the 6 battle houses of Sri Murugan and finally the wedding . so as always there are wonderful stories that link us to the esoteric. This is a quick clearing for us as we prepare for deeper sadhana . My experience has always been that Murugan never fails. Because it’s no grains it’s tough to get food . But as you trust and keep it. Fruits piled up in my fridge and fed from all around me and even prayers came to my hands without effort.
Perhaps the biggest lesson is faith and trust. That as you lift off and fly spiritually just trust like an unborn child in fluid within her or his unborn home. That the notion of karma cripples you into the thought of crime deed and punishment and reward.
so that’s my thought on this years fast - surrender and such silence of wonder . Aroogara
